The Laboratory has been registered by the Heath Protection Department of the Government of Catalonia on the Register of Environmental Health and Food. Report N” LSAA-17402.
LARA has been working in the field of low-level measurements of radioactivity since 1982. In 1983 it was considered to be a Research Support Service, by the General Direction of Universities of the Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia.
The technical capability of LARA was approved by the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) for radiological determinations related to the Environmental Surveillance Plan for the Ascó and Vandellós nuclear power stations.
Since 1985 the laboratory has carried out intercomparison campaigns with national and international organisations; the CSN, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Finally, the laboratory has been accredited with by the General Direction of Food Quality, and Agro-Food Industies of the Department of Agricultura, Food and Rural Action of the Government of Catalonia (nºacreditation 301).

LARA carries out low-level activity determination of all types of environmental simples, for example, water, soil, air particle, milk vegetation and animal tissue simples.
