Seminar Leila Panahi

On Friday May 10, Leila Panahi, PhD student from the Materials Characterization Group (GCM), gave a seminar about “Mechanical properties, micro structural  and thermal properties of a new iron base high entropy alloy”. Leila detailed the preparation of the metallic alloys and the techniques used for their characterization including Differential Scanning Calorimetry, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Mössbauer spectroscopy and Nano-Identation.

The results revealed the formation of new high entropy metallic glasses by mixing FeCoCrNi with Si and B. XRD results confirmed the formation of FCC and BCC phases while the amount and evolution of ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases upon annealing was evaluated by means of Mössbauer spectroscopy. The effects of the Si and B addition on the structural and mechanical properties was monitored by means of SEM and Nano-Identation respectively.

Seyedeh Leila Panahi graduated in Mathematics at the Islamic university (Iran) and then completed her Master degree of Physics (Nanotechnology) at the physics Department of Pune university (India). Her Master Thesis was focused on Synthesis and characterization of zirconia nanoparticles. She started her PhD within the GCM research group in November 2017 under the supervision of Dr. Eloi Pineda and Dr. Pere Bruna.
