With the present call the Institute of Energy Technologies (INTE) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya opens a contest to reward the best presentation of predoctoral or postdoctoral research works carried out within its research groups during the academic year 2023-2024.
INTE CONTEST OF THE BEST PREDOCTORAL AND
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH PRESENTATION (2023-2024)
1. INTRODUCTION
With the present call the Institute of Energy Technologies (Institut de Tècniques Energètiques - INTE) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya opens a contest to reward the best presentation of predoctoral or postdoctoral research works carried out within the research groups of the INTE during the academic year 2023-2024. The contest is a part of the INTE strategic line to promote the dissemination and internal/external communication of the scientific activity of the Institute.
2. AIM OF THE CALL
The aim of this contest is to award, with a prize, the best research work contribution realized by pre-doc o post-doc researchers of the INTE research groups for supporting high quality and high impact research activities.
3. PRIZE
An evaluation panel, described in the present rules, after examination of the submitted works and ordering them according to the criteria established by the present document will award the winner with the following prize:
- 1 LENOVO SMART PAPER 64GB ZAC00012ES (price of 446.49 € purchased with the INTE-CFiC Budget – Cap 2).
4. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT FOR APPLICANTS
The applicants must be a pre- or postdoctoral researcher who carried out his/her research during the academic year 2023-2024 within one of the four INTE research groups. The head of the applicant’s research group and his/her direct supervisor must be specified in the application.
5. CONTEST PROCESS
- Each applicant has to send, during the first phase of this contest, a pdf document including a research poster or a short research presentation (maximum 3 pages);
- The submitted works can be original as well as previously published in a journal, presented at congresses;
- The second phase of the contest will consist of a short oral talks (3 minutes per candidate) of the first 5 works selected by the evaluation board. Talks will take place during the INTE Research Day 2024 on December 13th, 2024.
6. APPLICATIONS
Applications must be submitted before 12:00 p.m. of December 5, 2024 via electronic mail to the address comms.inte@upc.edu with the subject: "INTE 2024 research awards presentation_NAME_SURNAME". The application must include the name of the applicant and the INTE research group she/he belongs to.
7. DOCUMENTATION
The application must be accompanied with the following documentation:
- Authorization of the candidate for the use of personal data for the contest goals.
- Approval from the head of the research group.
- Poster or conference presentation in PDF format sent as attached file. It must include the title and a list of authors, specifying the applicant. Documents will be in English.
8. PRIORITIZATION OF WORKS AND RESOLUTION OF THE CALL
During the first phase of the contest, the evaluation panel will select a maximum of 5 works that will pass to the second phase and that will be presented by the applicants as short oral talks at the INTE Research Day 2024. The schedule of the talks will be communicated to applicants in advance. Presentations will be in English.
Once the session of work oral defenses is finished the evaluation panel will evaluate and order them according to the following criteria:
- Adequacy of the work to the aim of the call (0-10 points).
- Importance of the research results for the group and INTE research lines goals (0-10 points).
- Quality of the submitted work (1st phase) and its oral defense (2nd phase) (0-10 points).
- Strategic opportunity, impact and other values that the applicant wishes to argue (0-10 points).
9. EVALUATION PANEL
The evaluation panel carries out the previous selection of the submitted works and ordering of the works after their defense and decides the winner of the call. It will be formed by the following four members of the INTE Commission of Training and Communication (CFiC):
- Claudia Grossi (Head of the CFiC and member of the IONHE group);
- Pere Bruna Escuer (INTE secretary and member of the GCM group);
- Youri Koubychine Merkulov (member of the NEMEN group)
- Guillem Cortes Rossell (member of the ANT group).
In the event that one of the aforementioned members cannot participate, a member of the missing research group who is not an applicant in this call will be incorporated in the panel at random basis.
10. PRIZE AWARD
The prize will be awarded to the winner at the INTE Council session next after the INTE Research Day event.
