INTE CONTEST FOR BEST PREDOCTORAL

RESEARCH VIDEO

(ACADEMIC YEAR 2024-2025)

 

  1. INTRODUCTION

 

The Institute of Energy Technologies of Technical University of Catalonia (INTE-UPC) announces with the present call a contest for the best videos awards presented by PhD and Master degrees’ students. This contest is a part of the INTE strategic line to promote the dissemination of the scientific activities carried out within its research groups.

 

  1. AIM OF THE CONTEST

 

The aim of this contest is to promote scientific divulgation activities, through creative methods, of young pre-doctoral researchers which have been carrying out their works within one of the four INTE-UPC research groups during the academic year 2024-25.

 

  1. AWARDS

 

The evaluation panel, determined in Section 9 of the present rules, after examination of the submitted videos and ranking them according to the criteria established by the present document (Section 8) will select two winners within the following categories: 1. Final Master Degrees Project; 2. PhD project (any phase). The award will consist of gross amount of:

  • 300 € for Final Master Degrees Project, that will be deposited directly to the winner bank account.
  • 500 € for PhD project, that will be deposited directly to the winner bank account.

 

  1. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR CONTEST APPLICANTS:

 

Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

  • Be currently enrolled in a UPC PhD programs or have defended their PhD project during the 2024–2025 academic year. In both cases, the PhD project must be carried out within one of the four INTE-UPC research groups.
  • Have defended their Final Master’s Project during the 2024 or 2025 year.s The project must have been conducted under the supervision of a faculty member (PDI) from one of the INTE-UPC research groups.

Note: The applicant's supervisor must be clearly indicated in the application.

 

  1. CONTEST PROCESS

 

  1. Each applicant has to send, before June, 30th 2025, a short video with the presentation of her/his research project. The duration of the video must not exceed 3 minutes and it can be done with any technique.
  2. The submitted video must be original and prepared for this contest. The language of the video can be Catalan, Spanish or English.
  3. The best 3 videos, for each one of the two categories presented in section 3, will be selected by the evaluation panel and will be presented at the INTE Research Day 2025 on July 18th, 2025. The two winners will be announced on the same day.

 

Note: The applicants’s video may be also used for dissemination in the social networks in which INTE participates.

 

 

  1. APPLICATIONS

 

Applications must be submitted before 12:00 a.m. of June 30th, 2025 via electronic mail to the address comms.inte@upc.edu with the subject: "INTE 2025 research video contest_NAME_SURNAME". The application must include the name of the applicant and the INTE research group she/he belongs to, their supervisor and a declaration where the applicants allows INTE-UPC to use the video for divulgation and dissemination activities (INTE web page, INTE social networks accounts, etc.).

 

  1. DOCUMENTATION

 

The application must be accompanied with the following documentation: 

  • Authorization of the candidate for the use of its personal data for the goals of the contest.
  • Authorization of the candidate for the use of the video by INTE Commission of Training and Communication (CFiC) for dissemination tasks.
  • A video of maximal duration of 3 minutes in a format compatible with standard multimedia players.

 

  1. RANKING CRITERIA

 

The evaluation panel will select a maximum of 3 videos for each awards category, to be projected on the INTE Research Day. Applicants videos will be evaluated and order them according to the following criteria: 

  • Adequacy of the video to the aim of the call (0-2.5 points).
  • Importance of the research results for the group and INTE research lines goals (0-2.5 points).
  • Technical and artistic quality of the video (0-2.5 points).
  • Strategic opportunity, impact and other values transmitted by the author (0-2.5 points).

 

  1. EVALUATION PANEL

 

The evaluation panel will be formed by the following four members of the INTE CFiC:

  • Claudia Grossi (Head of the CFiC and member of the IONHE group);
  • Pere Bruna Escuer (INTE secretary and member of the GCM group);
  • Youri Koubychine Merkulov (member of the NEMEN group)

 

In the event that one of the aforementioned members cannot participate, a member of the missing research group who is not an applicant in this call will be incorporated in the panel at random basis.
