The Institute of Energy Technologies (INTE) is a research institute at the UPC and it was founded in 1971. The research and technology transfer activities are mainly focussed on subjects related to the use of ionising radiation and associated risks, energy and accelerators.

The Institute mission, as a university research institute, is the generation and transfer of knowledge in its specific field of study. Management and planning is organised in programmes that are annually revised and are based on strategic lines approved by its governing bodies. The VI Strategic Plan states the challenges and aims of the institute for the 2011-2015 period and aims to give a greater emphasis on continuous improvement of the organisation, research quality, and external recognition of the work that is presently being done.

At present, research activity and knowledge transfer are organised into four programmes:

There are three laboratories approved by the National Accrediting Agency (ENAC) under the ISO 17025 Standard. The Institute also has a radon gas atmospheric studies laboratory, a radio meteorological station and a laboratory specialising in catalysts and hydrogen technology. The Institute offers specialised technical services to both public and private organisations.

The INTE offers training in different fields, support to undergraduate studies, it takes part in Masters and PhD degrees and organises postgraduate courses. Institute activities and those of its members are governed by standards of conduct stipulated in an ethical code. The INTE is socially committed and respects diversity.
